hi.
one reason i started this group was so women could share our traditionally-male skills with one another in safe and fun settings. So i'd like to invite you all to share things you'd be willing to teach to others, whatever that might be.
i myself have some rudimentary carpentry skills. like, if you want to make a bunk bed we could do that. no knowledge of power tools beyond an electric drill. but who needs power tools? is the human body not powerful enough?
what else? simple web-page design, i guess.

Mon, December 27, 2004 - 5:57 PMI'm an all around artist and a RPG gaming storyteller and player. I usually play lesbian, bi, or genderqueer women characters with great strength. I also write song lyrics and can play the base guitar if I ever get one.
Yay right on Fringe, all awesone skills.

Wed, December 29, 2004 - 6:33 PMI know how to build a do-it-yourself PC and install Linux or FreeBSD Unix on it! And I can fix and maintain Macintoshes and shoot and edit video.
But if it came to a skills trade, I'd rather learn something girly like how to sew or knit. I'm a tomboy on account of I can grow a beard and pee standing up, but mostly I'm really a girly girl. -

Thu, December 30, 2004 - 7:47 PMwell, i can teach you how to crotchet, at least how to make things that are rectangular or circular! but after that it's supposedly easy to go to sweaters, etc.
but i don't think i know any other "girly" stuff.
i can change a diaper. :)
plus, we can both do comedy and writing. i don't know if that's masculine or feminine but it's fun to do with more than one person. (like sex!)

Thu, December 30, 2004 - 7:07 PMI have a pretty decent all-around general knowledge of sports (though I'm not all that athletic). I watch sports on a regular basis and know in theory how to play a number of sports. -

Thu, December 30, 2004 - 7:47 PMdo you know the rules for rugby? that game is totally indecipherable. -

Re: action assistance
Thu, December 30, 2004 - 9:30 PMVery basically.
Each team consists of either 11 or 7 people.
Forward passes are not allowed. You can only either kick the ball or pass it either backwards or side ways.
You can score in three ways:
-A try (running the ball into the endzone and planting it with impact) is worth 7 points.
- A field goal in lieu of a try attempt is worth 3 points.
- A penalty kick is also worth 3 points.
That's all I know. -

Re: action assistance
Wed, January 5, 2005 - 3:46 AMIn bringing up sports, I have a great many skills in using weapons. Swords, daggers, axes, whips, bow staffs etc etc I seem to be a natural. I also had a lot of self training with them. Having an interest in weapons themselves, particularly melee and stuff like bow and arrow, and other types of projectile ancient weapons. No gun training, but knowledge in how to use them is also hardly "feminine" by society standards, but it's all me! Granted I never have any intention of using those skills unless of course a zombie invasion is going to happen soon, then they might come into good use. I also am skilled in a hell of a lot in marshal arts. Akido, Kung Fu, Karate, Judo, and a couple others. I also took fencing when I was in high school, I just thought I would add this bit about me and skills that I have to things that we Tomboys are capable of that's "hardly feminine" or "questionably feminine" or "outside the box of women stereotypes."
Alecs, it's awesome that you are actually deciphering rugby, I mean I never understood it, I do however enjoy watching rugby and could imagine playing it myself. I didn't know you knew so much about sports, I knew you kept track of so many of them Alecs, but I didn't know just how much knowledge you have in that particular area. I've always been a fan of good old American Football personally.
In response to whether changing diapers is "feminine." I would have to say that it's just human nature. At least in my opinion, anybody can learn how to change a diaper to clean up waste when taking care of babies. Humans have been doing so for a couple of thousands of years. I also am aware society tends to catagorize any type of childcare stuff into the "feminine" catagory.

Sun, January 9, 2005 - 5:51 PMChanging diapers isn't "feminine". That's why there was a smiley face after it. (shorthand for "this is a joke, please don't think i'm saying women should be at home barefoot changing diapers, though really everyone should be barefoot more often")
If you really know self-defense and weapons skills, we should get together and practice. I'd like to learn more aikido (i've done a bunch of lessons with long intervals in between.) and also swordplay and using a wooden staff. Mostly for the zombie invasion, which I'm convinced is right around the corner.
Also, does anyone have a tv that receives soccor matches, like, from the UK, and the inclination to watch them? I have the inclination and not the technology. -
